Why Am I Cloth Diapering?
I was always curious about cloth diapering, but didn’t realize how easy it was until my sister-in-law shared her journey with me. Not only was the money I would save enticing, but knowing how great they are for my baby’s sensitive skin.
What Does a Diaper Change Look Like?
I wash diapers about every 2 days. I keep dirty diapers in an Ubbi Diaper Pail with a cloth liner. I unbutton the insert from the diaper and put it in the Ubbi (do the same with the shell if it is dirty and fold in the velcro straps), take off the disposable liner and throw it away in a separate Ubbi along with Seventh Generation Wipes, and thats it.
Night Time Diapering
If you baby is sleeping through the night, they have peed a lot by morning. Using a Booster Pad on top of your diaper set up is life-changing! it provides that light extra layer to help prevent leaks.
Let’s Get Down & Dirty
Lets talk about washing. I don’t have a sprayer, I don’t feel like its needed with a Biodegradable Liner. I throw them in the washer on heavy duty mode with hot water. I use thieves laundry soap but you can use the soap of your choice, after I put them in dryer on extended tumble mode.
Ammonia build up- this can happen over time. how do you know? the diapers smell funky. You have two options, put 2 TBSP of bleach in with your diapers on hot OR put them in the sun (this also helps remove stains).
Must Haves
Ubbi Diaper Pail– Since you only need to wash the diapers every 48 hours, this stainless steel diaper pail is great for keeping any smell away!
Biodegradable Liners– I love these because it makes poopy diaper cleanup easy.
Grovia Hybrid Shells– I have tried a few different types of cloth diapers and these are my favorite. The pads snap in so they cant move as your child becomes mobile as well as they have a velcro closure which makes diaper changes quick and easy.
Booster Pads– I like ton use booster pads on top of the regular pads at night to prevent leaking.
